December 2006 XMas & New YearsXmas and New years will be very different for me this year... Here's the story with me... I spent the Winter season with Sally in a place called Wanaka, where I was working at the Mountain, and in a bar in town. We saved some cash for a road trip and went all the way down to the very southern tip of New Zealand - Stuart Island. I stopped at many places along the way and took many many pictures. Then I traveled all the way up the West coast of the South Island and have found myself in the beautiful city of Nelson. Yes, Nelson New Zealand! It is soooo great here! I have two jobs now... One, working in the backpackers hotel "Paridiso" as the night porter. The other is a bar tending/waiting job at the Waterfront Restaurant. Both jobs are pretty cushy and I am having tones of good times.
The plan from here is to finish X-mas and New Years and then travel up to the North Island for the remainder of the Summer (April/May). After that I will fly to Australia and spend anywhere from 6 months to a year traveling around and working. I have a very rough outline of where I will be after that, but the Universe is very dynamic and spontaneous, so nothing is carved in future... Yet.
More Pictures Comming soon.
I will be making the time to update this as often as I can in order to keep everyone in the loop
I hope you can find the time to stay in touch. I would love to hear what you have been up to... Leave me a message ---> HERE
October 2006 Wanaka, New Zealand So we made it to NZ! We arrived here on the 1st of June and it is now Oct.! I guess I will start at the begining... Having landed in Auckland, we decided to stay the night in a place called BASE Backpackers. It was a pretty nice place, geared towards a younger crowd of travelers, and fully equipped for partying. We decided in the interest of saving ourselves money we would move on to Christchurch, and start looking for some transportation to get to Wanaka. We flew in to CHC, located on the South Island, and stayed at yet another BASE. This one was the same style but a little more chilled. We ended up being there for longer than we thought, as we had decided to pick up a camper van and this was proving to be a bit more of a challenge than we expected. About six days went by and we finally found a van with a bed built in to the back. This is great because come the summer time we will be able to use it for sleeping out rent free!
Once we had the van we were able to leave. We continued on along the east coast of the S.I. untill we reached Dunedin. There we put the Van in for some break tuning and 350 dollars later we were on our way! We finally reached mt buddy Tim's house in Queenntown where we spent the night before heading to Wanaka, where we would spend the next three months working and trying to save some money for the summer. With Sally working in the bar and me working up the mountain, we were able to put away a few grand. Now we have just found out that our WOF is due and it will cost us upwards of $1000 to have is brought up to saftey standards! We are not impressed...
On the brighter side, it is almost summer now and warm enough for us to sleep in the van (our home for the next few months), as we travel all over the S.I. in search of adventure and scenery for the web site. We are both anxious to get going. Wanaka has been good, but we are ready for a change. I just hope we don't run into any more trouble with the van... June 2006 Fantastic Fiji Well, that was the shortest summer I have had in... Well... EVER! Going from Whistler to Fiji was definately a shock. But leaving the warmth of my tropical summer to come to New Zealand was even more strange because it seemed like summer only just started!!!
Had the most wonderful time there. Got to see most of the Yasawa Island, all along the Coral Coast, the Northern tip of Nananu-I-Ra, and finally Suva, the capital of Fiji. It is really hard to pick a favoutite place or moment. Relaxing on the beaches, or trecking through the jungles to secluded waterfalls were definately highlights. But staying with the Fijian family at Edge Water in Newtown (Wailoaloa) is also worth mention. They really took care of Sally and I durring our stay, and watched after our stuff while we were away exploring this island paradise.
Took loads of pictures while we were there. (close to 1000) Some of which are on this site. Check out the Fiji Photos (scenery) and (people) to see shots of this amazing place.
In New Zealand now and still snap happy. Be sure to check back soon for some shots of NZ which I hope to post by around August... September 2005 trippin in London Well I am here in England now. What a wicked place! TV is quite diferent. Some of the language still boggels me. And I am still trying to wrap my head around the driving! Bloody nutters!
I have been into London a couple of times and I am well impressed. There are so many increadible buildings and monuments and bridges. Super cozy little pubs and restaraunts. Beautiful parks. And all these tiny little sidestreets full of shops and interesting people.
I have ripped around on the London Underground (subway). That thing is one Hell of a maze! I am not looking forward to dealing with it everyday for work. But if thats what I need to do, I'll give it a go.
My accomidations are cozy, to say the least. I am enjoying cooking for Sally and her Mom and Doug.
So far so good. I will write more when I have more time. September 2005 Departure Well this is it! I am finally leaving Orillia, Ontario, and Canada for that matter. My Journey is really about to begin. Right now I do feel a little anxious, but I know it is just because I still have some loose ends to tie up. I am sure once everything is packed and in place, and goodbyes have been said, I will return to the 'mostly excited' state I have been in all this week. My passport arrived on Monday which was the 29th. I booked my flight yesterday, which leaves tomorrow night. And by Saturday morning I will be in England. Far far away from everything I am used to and comfortable with. Regardless of how I may feel now, I know in my heart this is the right path for me. All this will be less nerv-
racking once I am underway. The future is so bright!
I can't wait!!!
June 2005 Peace Out!!!Hi everyone, just wanted to leave this blog to let you all know I am planning a trip across the pond. I am going to Ontario for a visit and then I'm off for 'jolly ol' England.
